Introduction

“A Touch of Zen Guest House” is the first B&B in Taiwan converted from a military dependent’s village and all’s welcome to stop by for a stay.
In a move to preserve the history of the village, Bureau of Cultural Affairs of Kaohsiung City Government kicked off a “preservation through cultural program incentive.” A Touch of Zen Guest House is one of such old quarters being revitalized by the initiative. Visitors to the village will first notice the green exterior façade and the stained-glass windows, which sparks lots of curiosity. The spouse of the innkeeper is an American born in Taiwan, who works as a director and photographer, which is why this cinematically-themed B&B houses memorabilia of out-of-commerce movies. The Guest House also hosts movie viewings and academic workshops. The living room is a small, converted movie theater, which is used to accommodate the occasional art exhibitions and concerts. An old school bar area is set up in the corner. Parking is easy to find in the neighborhood. A Taiwan High Speed Rail shuttle bus stop stands by the entrance. Visitors can also rent a YouBike to get around. THSR Zuoying Station, Lotus Pond, Confucius Temple, the National Stadium and Taichung Military Kindred Village Museum are less than a two-minute walk away.
